This iconic full day hike requires an early start when we transfer to Gourka Road in the Wooroonooran National Park about 25 km from Yungaburra. The hike involves a steep, arduous climb through beautiful rainforest with stops for smoko and snacks along the way. We stop for a light packed lunch and rest adjacent to the headwaters of the Russell River. The final ascent is over irregular boulders and the summit at 1,622m is the highest point in Queensland. During the dry season the summit offers superb mountain and coastal views. The return trip is via the same path. Track surface – unformed track. Approximate trip duration – 10 to 12 hours. Difficulty level – strenuous, for experienced hikers only. Price includes transfers, snacks, picnic lunch and National Park fees.
